Governor's Recommendations for 2000 Supplemental Budget
Washington State University
1. Power Plant $3,600,000
Additional funding is provided for the installation of supplemental
boilers, asbestos abatement, and related costs to provide a safe and reliable
source of heating for the remainder of the biennium.
2. Technology Commercialization (Health Sciences Initiative) $ 600,000
Washington State University will conduct cancer research and biotechnology programs at the Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute
(SIRTI) so promising health sciences technologies can be commercialized.
Funding is provided for cancer research and to coordinate health and
biotechnology activities.
3. South Campus Electrical Facility $ 272,000
Additional funding is provided to pay the total cost for the maintenance of
a new electrical substation.
4. Air Pollution Control Fund Adjustment reduction of $149,000
Funding is reduced due to the loss of revenue to the Air Pollution Control
Account as a result of Initiative 695. (Air Pollution Control Account)
5. WSU Pullman Enrollment Proviso
Current legislation provides $1,720,000 in new funding for expanded
instructional programs. In the event WSU Pullman enrollment is
below the state target, a proviso proposed by the Governor would reduce that funding by $4,567 per student.
6. Bond Payment Offset no cost
The budget is reduced by $500,000 in Fiscal Year 2000 and increased by
the same amount in Fiscal Year 2001 to match estimated bond payments for Washington State University (WSU) capital projects.
