After much maneuvering in caucus, eleven Republicans
joined with most majority Democrats late Monday night to pass through the
state House of Representatives a $31.6 million appropriation to construct the
Spokane Academic Center Building. However, concerns are being raised by the
governor. |

budget with research, enrollment funding. Senate sidetracks higher educaiton
enhancements.
State Appropriations Chair Helen Sommers, D-Seattle,
made good her commitment to university education and engineered a supplemental
operating budget that went steaming out of the House loaded with research,
enrollment and financial aid funding. The Senate spent considerably less. |

State Senate leaders this afternoon released a proposed
capital construction budget bill (SB 6233) that fully funds $31.6 million in
construction of the Academic Center Building. Funding is also provided for the
Pullman Wastewater and WSUNet projects. |
